Active and Passive Voice

Subject ന് പ്രാധാന്യം കൊടുത്തുള്ളതാണ് active voice.

Eg : He killed a rat

Object ന് പ്രാധാന്യം കൊടുത്തുള്ളതാണ് passive voice.

Eg : The rat was killed by him

Active voice ലെ object , passive voice ഇൽ ആദ്യം എഴുതണം

Active voice ലെ subject , passive voice ഇൽ by agent ആയി എഴുതണം

Future continuous, perfect continuous tense കൾക്ക് Passive voice ഇല്ല. അവയുടെ active voice ഇൽ തന്നെ 'be' രൂപം ഉണ്ട്.

ചോദ്യ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള വാക്യങ്ങൾ പാസ്സീവ് വോയിസ് ആക്കുമ്പോൾ 'do' form ലുള്ള verb ലെ tense അനുസരിച്ച് 'be' form ചേർക്കണം

Eg : When do you study grammer? (AV)

        When is grammerstudied by you? (PV)

        Is he learning English? (AV)

        Is English being learnt by him? (PV)

Simple present ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+is\am\are+PPV+by agent

Eg : She draws a picture (AV)

        A picture is drawn by her

Present Continuous ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+is\am\are+being+PPV+by agent

Eg : She is drawing a picture (AV)

        A picture is being drawn by her

Present Perfect ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+has\have+been+PPV+by agent

Eg : She has drawn a picture (AV)

        A picture has been drawn by her

Simple past ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+was\were+PPV+by agent

Eg : She is drew a picture (AV)

        A picture was drawn by her

Past Continuous ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+was\were+being+PPV+by agent

Eg : She was drawing a picture (AV)

        A picture was being drawn by her

Past perfect ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+had+been+PPV+by agent

Eg : She had drawn a picture (AV)

        A picture had been drawn by her

Simple future ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+modal auxilary+be+PPV+by agent

Eg : She will draw a picture (AV)

        A picture will be drawn by her

Future perfect ഇൽ ഉള്ള വാക്ക്യം പാസ്സീവ് ആക്കാൻ Sub+modal auxiliary+have been+PPV+by agent

Eg : She will have drawn a picture (AV)

        A picture will have been drawn by her

ഒരു imperative sentence നെ പാസ്സീവ് വോയിസ് ആക്കാൻ ആ sentence, Let ഇൽ തുടങ്ങിയാൽ മതി (Let+Sub+be+PPV)

Eg : Open the door (AV)

        Let the door be opened (PV)

Active voice negative ആണെങ്കിൽ auxiliary verb ന് ശേഷം not ചേർത്താൽ മതി

Eg : He cannot write English well (AV)

        English cannot be written well by him (PV)

മുൻ വർഷ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ

1) The passive voice of "They completed the project is: (LDC Kottayam 2014)

a) The project is completed    b) The projectwas being completed    c) The project was competed by them       d) The project will be cmpleted

Ans : c) The project was completed by them

2) The passive form of "The secretary garlanded the chief guest" is (Idukki LDC 2014)

a) The chief guest was garlanded by the secretary
b) The chief guest is garlanded by the secretary
c) The chief guest has been garlanded by the secretary
d) The chief guest will be garlanded by the secretary

Ans: a) The chief guest was garlanded by the secretary

Correction of Sentences

• Third person, singular ആയ he, she it വന്നാൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : She cooks well

• First person ആയ I, we, Second person ആയ you, Third person plural ആയ they  എന്നിവ വന്നാൽ verb plural ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : They eat rice regularly

• രണ്ട് singular subjects നെ and കൊണ്ട് ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ചാൽ verb plural ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : Suresh and Sajan are advocates

• എന്നാൽ and കൊണ്ട് ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ച subjects, ഒരു വ്യക്തിയെ ആണ് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : The teacher and guardian is a doctor

• രണ്ട് subject കൾക്ക് മുൻപിലും article, possessive adjective വന്നാൽ verb plural ആയിരിക്കും (my, our, your, his, her, its, their, ones എന്നിവയാണ് possessive adjectives)

            Eg : My uncle and my guardian have come

• ജോഡികളായി വന്ന് ഒരു ആശയത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : Bread and buttor is good for breakfast

• Each\every\no എന്നീ വാക്കുകളിൽ ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങളിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : Each boy and each girl in the class has studied well

• Either, neither, each, everyone, everybody, everyday, somebody, someone, anybody, anyone, nobody, no one, none എന്നീ വാക്കുകളിൽ ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങളിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : Neither of them was invited for the party

• Distance, time, amount of money, measurement, period of time എന്നീ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : Hundred rupees is enough for a day

• Gerund (ing form) subject ആയി വരുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങളിൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും

             Eg : Smoking inside the vehicle is punishable

• രണ്ട് subjects നെ as well as, with, along with, together with, in addition to, in the company of, accompanied by, rather than, unlike, as much as തുടങ്ങിയവ കൊണ്ട് കൂട്ടി യോജിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ first subject അനുസരിച്ചായിരിക്കും verb വരുന്നത്. First Subject, singular ആയാൽ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും. First Subject, plural ആയാൽ verb plural ആയിരിക്കും.

            Eg : The teacher as well as the students is late today

                    The students as well as the teacher are late today

• രണ്ട് subjects നെ either..or, neither...nor, not only but also തുടങ്ങിയവ കൊണ്ട് കൂട്ടി യോജിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ second subject അനുസരിച്ചായിരിക്കും verb വരുന്നത്. 

            Eg : Neither the Chief Minister nor the other ministers have come

• Cattle, cavalry, people, police എന്നീ subject കൾക്ക് verb plural ആയിരിക്കും.

            Eg : People are jealous of his success

• News, summons, cross roads, wages, politics, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, diseases like measles, mumps, rickets, എന്നീ subject കൾക്ക് verb singular ആയിരിക്കും.

            Eg : The news was shocking

• Scissors, tongs, spectacles, pliers, trousers, pants, jeans, pyjamas, shoes, socks, glouse, binoculars എന്നീ subject കൾക്ക് verb plural ആയിരിക്കും.

            Eg : Jeans are prohibited in this college

• Agroup of, a pair of എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം വരുന്ന noun, plural ആയാലും verb singular ആയിരിക്കും. 

            Eg : A group of persons has entered the room

• Committee, organization, team, jury, family, bride grooms party എന്നിവയെ ഒരു group ആയി പരിഗണിക്കുമ്പോൾ verb singular ആയിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ അവയിലെ members നെ പരിഗണിക്കുമ്പോൾ verb plural ആയിരിക്കണം 

            Eg : The committee has taken a decision

                    The committee are devided on starting new program

• Most of, lot of, half of, plenty of, great deal of എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം countable noun വന്നാൽ verb plural ആയിരിക്കും. Noun, uncountable ആണെങ്കിൽ singular verb ഉപയോഗിക്കണം.

            Eg : A lot of employees of the company are terminated last month (Noun countale)

                   Half of the milk is lost (Noun uncountable)

• Both, few, a few, several എന്നീ വാക്കുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം verb plural ആയിരിക്കും.

            Eg : A few employees in the company have given high salary

• One of ന് ശേഷം plural noun വന്നാലും verb singular ആയിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ noun നു മുൻപ് relative pronoun വന്നാൽ verb plural ആകും 

            Eg : One of the students comes here very late

                   One of the students who come here is very smart

• A number of നു ശേഷം verb plural ആയിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ The number of നു ശേഷം plural noun വന്നാലും verb singular ആയിരിക്കും 

            Eg : A number of students have attended the seminar

                   The number of students in the class has decreased
