സിലബസ് പ്രകാരം ഇനി ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ നമുക്ക് പ്രധാനമായി പഠിക്കാനുള്ള പാഠഭാഗമാണ് Tense. Tense മായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കൂടുതൽ വിവരങ്ങൾ നമുക്ക് നോക്കിത്തുടങ്ങാം.

ഒരു verb ന് മൂന്ന് tense ആണുള്ളത്. Present, Past, Future. ഇവയ്ക്ക് ഓരോന്നിനും താഴെപ്പറയുന്ന നാല് രൂപങ്ങളാണുള്ളത്. Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous.

1.a. Simple Present: (Sub+Present form of the verb+Obj)

* സ്ഥിരമായി ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* പ്രപഞ്ച സത്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* മുൻകൂട്ടി തീരുമാനിച്ചതും സംഭവിക്കാൻ പോകുന്നതുമായ കാര്യങ്ങൾ

* Proverbs, Quotation, Maximsഎന്നിവയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* Always, Often, Usually, Generally, frequently, rarely, occasionally, annually, dialy, every day, every week, every month, several times, seldom, never എന്നിവ time adverbs ആയി വരുമ്പോൾ simple present ആണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ടത്

Eg:

She usually wakes up at 4 am.

The PM of India visits Japan next week.

Slow and steady wins the race.

He always comes to the class late.

1.b. Present Continuous (Sub+am\is\are+verb+ing+obj)

* സംഭവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* തീരുമാനിച്ചുറപ്പിച്ച, സമീപഭാവിയിൽ സംഭവിക്കാൻ സാധ്യതയുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* now, right now, at present, at this moment, still, today എന്നിവ വരുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങൾ

Eg:

It is raining now

They are going to sell their old house.

1.c. Present perfect (Sub+has\have+PPV+obj)

* കുറച്ചു മുൻപായി സംഭവിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങൾ പറയാൻ

* പ്രത്യേക സമയം പ്രതിപാദിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത നടന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞ സംഭവം

* Just, yet, recently, lately, since, dor, so far, this morning, this afternoon, this evening, till, ever, never എന്നിവ വരുന്ന വാക്യങ്ങൾ

Eg:

She has just gone out.

I have seen him before

They have already completed their work.

1.d. Present Perfect Continuous (Sub+has\have+been+verb+ing+since\for+time

* കഴിഞ്ഞ കാലത്തിൽ തുടങ്ങിയിട്ട് ഇപ്പോളും നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തിയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* Since സംഭവിച്ച സമയത്തെ കാണിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

* For ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

Eg:

They have been working there for 5 years

She has been studying the course since 2016

2.a. Simple Past (Sub+past form of the verb+obj)

* സംഭവിച്ച കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* ഭൂതകാലത്തെ ശീലങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* ഒന്നിന് പുറകെ മറ്റൊന്നായി സംഭവിച്ച രണ്ടു കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* It is time, it is high time, it is long since, it is ages\years എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം simple past ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

* Yesterday, the day before yesterday, last week, last month, a few month ago എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം simple past ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

Eg:

India became independent in 1947

He always came late to the class last semester

It is time you reached here

2.b Past Continuous (Sub+was\were+verb+ing+obj)

* ഒരു സംഭവം നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ മറ്റൊരു സംഭവം നടന്നു എന്ന് സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

* ഒരേ സമയത്ത് സംഭവിക്കുകയായിരുന്ന രണ്ടു സംഭവങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

Eg:

When the teacher came they were making voice

While I was sleeping she was studying

2.c. Past Perfect (Sub+had+PPV+obj)

* ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ സംഭവിച്ച രണ്ടു കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ സംഭവം Past Perfect ലും രണ്ടാമത്തെ സംഭവം simple past ലും ആയിരിക്കണം

Eg: When I reached station the train had left

2.d. Past Perfect Continuous (Sub+had been+verb+ing)

* ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തി കുറച്ചുനാൾ തുടർച്ചയായി നടക്കുകയും അതിനുശേഷം മറ്റൊരു പ്രവൃത്തി നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌താൽ തുടർച്ചയായി നടക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തിയെ കാണിക്കാൻ

Eg:

She had been studying for hours before i wake up

3.a. Simple Future (Sub+will\shall+V1+obj)

* സംഭവിക്കാൻ പോകുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

* First person ഉപയോഗിക്കുമ്പോൾ "shall" ഉം സെക്കൻഡ്, തേർഡ് പേഴ്സൺ വരുമ്പോൾ will ഉം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

Eg:

He will come here

We shall do that for you

3.b. Future Continuous (Sub+will\shall+be+verb+ing+obj)

* ഭാവിയിൽ തുടർന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

Eg:

At this time next week we shall be travelling to UK.

3.c. Future Perfect (Sub+will\shall+be_verb+ing+obj)

* ഭാവിയിൽ നിശ്ചിത സമയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ഒരു കാര്യം പൂർത്തിയാകും എന്ന് കാണിക്കാൻ

Eg: He will have completed his work by this time tomorrow.

3.d. Future Perfect Continuous (Sub+will\shall+have+have been+verb+ing)

* ഭാവിയിൽ ഒരു കാര്യം സംഭവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കും എന്ന് സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ

Eg:

By next month I shall have been working as agovt employee

മുൻ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ വന്ന ചില ചോദ്യങ്ങളിലൂടെ

1. We __ each other for five years (LDC Trivandrum 2014)

a) knew    b) known   c) knows    d) have known

മേൽ പറഞ്ഞ നിയമങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം for വന്നുകഴിഞ്ഞാൽ present perfect tense ഉപയോഗിക്കണം. അതിനാൽ ans (d) have known

2. We ___ all yesterday (LDC Alappuzha 2014)
a) have worked   b) were worked    c) has worked    d) worked

yesterday  തന്നിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ simple past ആണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ടത്. അതിനാൽ Ans : (d) worked
